This is an example of an extracted molar and the immediate placement of a bone graft in order to preserve the bone for a future implant. After an extraction of a tooth the bone socket will resorb and the volume width of the bony socket will decrease by 30 to 50% within one year, but most occurs within the first 3 months after the extraction. A graft at the time of the extraction will preserve the bone for future implant placement.
